On June 12, 1898, Aguinaldo led the declaration of Philippine Independence from the colonial rule of the Spaniards. Continuous efforts for sovereignty led to the declaration of June 12 as a special public holiday under the Presidential Proclamation which aims to commemorate the Filipino’s right to inherent freedom and independence.
With the company’s own initiative to celebrate the country’s independence, SM Supermalls had a simultaneous flag raising ceremony across its malls nationwide. SM malls in Laguna observed this national event with the ceremonial flag parade and flag raising. The local government unit, members of the Philippine National Police and Bureau of Fire Protection, Boy Scout of the Philippines, mall tenants, and shoppers graced the said occasion.
As part of the Independence Day celebration, “Pinoy Eats” and “Buy Pinoy” bazaars were also activated to give a complete Pinoy feel to the shoppers.
