DOLE CALABARZON EMPOWERS WORKERS IN LAGUNA THROUGH TRAINING UNDER WODP

 

PD Recio officially starts the training under WODP with a message at the Technopark Hotel in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna.

A series of learning sessions on labor education under the Workers Organization Development Program (WODP) and Wage Update was conducted recentlyat the Technopark Hotel in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna.

DOLE Laguna Provincial Director Guido R. Recio, in his opening message, underscored the importance of labor education in pushing for responsible unionism. “With the province known for the presence of organized establishments, there is a need to balance the scale of freedom and responsibility,” Recio added.

Further, DOLE IV-A Regional Director ExequielRonie A. Guzman, in his message, emphasized the importance of empowering the labor sector. He added that keeping union members abreast with the latest advisories and reminding them of key labor provisions would result in a well-informed workforce which is needed in attaining harmonious relations between laborers and management.

In efforts to develop a better outlook, the participants were introduced to the process of formulating wage orders. The latest wage order was discussed by the RTWPB IV-A Board Secretary, Atty. Rio Ariel Soriano. He encouraged the labor representatives to take active participation in the succeeding wage deliberations by drafting and submitting their proposals.

Discussions on workers’ rights and management prerogative were also presented by Senior Labor and Employment Officer, Mr. Alvin T. Doctora of DOLE LPOand on Labor Management Cooperation by Labor and Employment Officer III, Mr. Louise San Andres of RCMB IV-A. The procedure in the conduct of certification of election was then explained by DOLE IV-A Med-Arbiter, Atty. Rosita C. Villaluz.

The activity was also a chance for members of labor organizations to mingle with their counterparts from other establishments. A game was facilitated by Mr. Dindo M. Satumba who later gave a lecture entitled, “Spirituality in Leading Labor Unions.” Participants deemed it as a refreshing take on their spiritual well-being.

The said activity organized by DOLE Laguna Provincial Office was participated in by 33 union officers and members from 15 different groups in the province. Participating labor groups were comprised of independent, affiliated, and charted locals. (RUDYBOY R. SINAY)
