The National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) supported the
year-long centennial commemoration of National Artist Jose M. Maceda, which
ended and happened on his 101st birth anniversary on Wednesday, 31 January 2018
at the Abelardo Hall, UP Diliman, Quezon City.
The centennial event dubbed as “Maceda100” was a series of special
events in celebration of Jose M. Maceda’s 100th birth year which officially
kicked off on his 100th birthday on January 31, 2017. It was formally closed with a Philippine
debut of his two latest compositions, Sujeichon (2004) and Accordion and
Mandolin with a Special Orchestra (2003).
Dr. Maceda was an NRCP regular member and Achievement awardee in the
Division of Humanities in 1987. He was also a composer, a professor, and an
active ethnomusicologist who was conferred the title as National Artist in
Music in 1997. NRCP’s ties with UP Center for Ethnomusicology traces back to
the many productive years of Dr. Maceda as pioneer researcher of Filipino
