NSTW 2018 Officially Opens

The National Science and Technology Week 2018 (NSTW 2018) was officially launched to the public last July 17. The NSTW 2018:  Innovation for Collective Prosperity opening ceremonies was graced by the representative of President Rodrigo R. Duterte - Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon M. Lopez, Department of Science and Technology Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña, diverse government and private agencies, and friends from the media.


NSTW 2018’s opening ceremonies highlighted the Launching of the Electronics Products Development Center Inclusive Innovation Center which was primed to be the country’s game changer in the local electronics industry. Moreover, the Outstanding Research and Development Award for Basic Research- Eduardo Quisumbing Medal, and the Outstanding Science Administrator Award- Discoro L. Umali Medal were awarded to Carla B. Dimalanta, D. Sc. A Professor from the University of the Philippines Diliman and Egardo E. Tulin, D. Agr. Sci the President of the Visayas State University, respectively.

Sec. Fortunato de la Peña emphasized in his welcoming speech that one key factor of this year’s NSTW is its innovative arrangement. He stated that in order for the public to relate closely with the exhibit, the arrangement was divided into four main sectors: Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) in home, school, workplace, and marketplace. This was made in order for the public to better appreciate the importance of STI in the various aspects of their lives.

Aside from the unique arrangement, exhibit-goers will surely enjoy several unique sights like the oneSTore supermarket, interactive quizzes, games, freebies, and learning more about our everyday Science-embedded lives.

The NSTW 2018 celebration at the World Trade Center will run from July 17 to 21- 8AM to 6PM. Meanwhile, regional celebration of NSTW 2018 by the provinces in CALABARZON will continue to commence from hereon. Stay updated by following DOST CALABARZON’s official social media accounts.
