BE A BLESSING TO OTHERS: SM’s 60,000 PAIRS OF SHOES CAMPAIGN

The SM story began in 1958 when founder Henry Sy Sr. opened the first Shoemart store in downtown Manila, introducing exciting new merchandising and retailing concepts. At that time, Sy, who has been honored as the father of Philippine retail by the Philippine Retailers Association, thought that if he could sell a pair of shoes to every Filipino, he could be a successful man.
And just recently SM launched its 60th anniversary celebrations and with it, kicked off a series of exciting 60 themed visual attractions, fun-filled activities, and memorable experiences for its customers in SM malls nationwide.
As a part of the 60th anniversary celebration, SM City Calamba and SM City San Pablo thru its socio-civic arm SM Cares joined a nationwide shoe drive. Dubbed as “60,000 pairs of shoes” this employee volunteerism program aims to provide a pair of sturdy shoes to selected public schools near SM.
“This simple act of kindness from the employees, who volunteered their time and resources is our way of giving back to the community where SM has malls” said Abigail Mole SM City Calamba’s Mall Manager.
“The 60,000 shoes campaign is very close to our hearts as this signifies our humble beginnings and a fulfillment of Mr Henry Sy Sr.’s vision. This also serves as our early Christmas present to the students” added Evelyn Verzola SM City San Pablo’s Mall Manager.
A total of 1,200 students from Real Elementary School and Crossing Elementary School benefited from the said campaign.
