2,000 students from CALABARZON qualify in the S&T Scholarship Program of DOST

A total of 2,000 graduating senior high school students from CALABARZON region qualified in the country’s premier S&T scholarship program, the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) Scholarship Programs – 1,210 of them qualified as scholars under the RA 7687 Scholarship Program, given to academically talented students belonging to the economically disadvantaged families; while 790 passed under the Merit Scholarship Program.

Here is the breakdown of the new DOST scholars per province: For RA 7687 Program, Cavite – 243, Laguna – 405, Batangas – 254, Rizal – 189, Quezon – 119; while for Merit Program, Cavite – 185, Laguna – 267, Batangas – 107, Rizal – 187, Quezon – 44.

The new S&T scholars will receive a monthly stipend at ₱7,000, tuition fee subsidy up to ₱40,000 per academic year for those who are enrolled in private universities and colleges; book allowance; MS/PE clothing allowance (one-time only); one economy-class roundtrip fare per year for those studying outside of their home province; outright thesis allowance; and group accident insurance.

Out of the 102,526 examinees who took the 2020 DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship Examination last October 20, 2019 in 347 test centers nationwide, DOST-SEI has announced a total of 9,788 students have qualified in the said scholarship program all over the country (5,917 qualified under RA 7687 while 3,871 under Merit program).

The notice of award will be sent to the new scholars in the region for the orientation and signing of the Scholarship Agreement.
