Coconut farmers in Brgy. Ramirez, Magallanes, Cavite underwent a
training on food safety last 21 January 2022.
Attendees are officers and members of the Ramirez Upland Farmers Association (RUFAI), one of the beneficiaries of the Agroforestry Support Program for Enhancing Resiliency of Community-Based Forest Management Areas (ASPIRE-CBFM) Program. The training complements the earlier deployment of coconut production technologies by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to the organization in support of their livelihood.
Ms. Anna Marie S. Daigan and Ms. Joan Mae Acacio, members of the DOST Cavite Food Safety Team facilitated the training, discussing the fundamentals of food safety. During the 1-day interactive activity, the facilitators covered maintenance and sanitation of food production equipment and facility, and protection of product information, among others.
In preparation of the organization’s production of various coconut products, the RUFAI learned about the processes of ensuring food safety in their production operations to guarantee their products’ suitableness for public consumption. The trainers likewise equipped them with knowledge on how to prevent food hazards, and guidelines in applying for licenses to operate.
In response, Mr. Mario De Lima, President of RUFAI, expressed his appreciation to the DOST Cavite for its assistance not only in the provision of production equipment to the organization, but also in the facilitation of trainings for the development of their livelihood activities.
DOST Cavite continues to provide S&T interventions to uplift the community. To work with them, email pstccavitedost@gmail.com, or reach out via their Facebook page at facebook.com/DOSTCAVITE.
