Vice Presidential candidate and Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte is backing the senatorial candidacy of Sorsogon Gov. Chiz Escudero, who is seeking a fresh six-year term in the May national elections.
The presidential daughter expressed her full support for Escudero’s senatorial bid on Saturday, when her bike-ride campaign Mahalin Natin Ang Pilipinas Ride (MNPR), made a stopover in the coastal municipality of Matnog in Sorsogon, the gateway to the island of Luzon, from Northern Samar.
“Meron din po akong hindi kasama sa UniTeam pero mga kaibigan ko pa rin at tinutulungan ko sila sa kanilang pagtakbo as senators . . . and of course, the governor of Sorsogon, si Senator Chiz Escudero,” Mayor Inday Sara told local officials and supporters during a program in Matnog’s gymnasium.
According to Mayor Inday Sara, who chairs Lakas-CMD and Davao local party Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), the support for non-UniTeam senatoriables would be a testament to the world that the Philippines can move forward united despite the challenges spawned by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Gusto nating lagyan ng mukha ang kasabihang in unity there is strength,” the presidential daughter explained. “Gusto kong ipakita sa buong mundo na malakas ang Pilipinas dahil nagkakaisa po tayong lahat.”
Mayor Inday Sara is the latest to endorse Escudero, who has consistently topped various pre-election surveys, the latest of which was the Manila Bulletin-Tangere survey conducted from January 26-29 that ranked the veteran legislator number 1 after 63.21% of the respondents preferred him.
Escudero, who has vowed to help in transitioning the country toward economic recovery post-pandemic and push for more autonomy for local government units, recently received the support of mayors of Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) and Eastern Samar belonging to the League of Municipalities of the Philippines or LMP, for his Senate run.
Last year, the tandems of Senator Ping Lacson and Senate President Tito Sotto; Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Kiko Pangilinan; and Senator Manny Pacquiao and Rep. Lito Atienza, who are running for president and vice president, respectively, have adopted Escudero in their senatorial slates. #
