Abalos urges sustained community cleanup; applauds successful KALINISAN Program kick-off
Building on the positive momentum generated by the triumphant launch of the Kalinga at Inisyatiba para sa Malinis na Bayan (KALINISAN Program), Secretary Benhur Abalos of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) calls on all Filipinos to integrate cleanliness into their daily routines.
He expresses gratitude to the 33,403 barangays and 1.616 million Filipinos who actively participated in the simultaneous program launch across the country, emphasizing, “In the name of our beloved President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., heartfelt thanks to all barangays and citizens who joined hands in this new bayanihan for KALINISAN.”
Abalos encourages the adoption of cleanliness as a way of life, stating, “Let's keep it clean wherever we go.”
Regions I, III, and VII receive commendation, achieving 100% barangay participation in the KALINISAN program launch.
Referring to a report from the DILG’s National Barangay Operations Office, Abalos highlights that the nationwide KALINISAN program launch resulted in the collection of a total of 6.307 million kilograms of trash. Region VII led with 989,879 kilos, followed by the National Capital Region with 866,773 kilos, and Region V with 665,635 kilos.
Region 1 boasts the highest participant count with 204,607 community residents, followed by Region VI with 181,611, and CALABARZON with 166,000 participants.
Abalos urges sustained commitment, cautioning against mere initial enthusiasm: “Let's hope it's not just a flash in the pan. May our commitment to KALINISAN endure.”
The DILG Secretary announces the finalization of guidelines for monitoring weekly clean-up drives in all barangays nationwide.
Consultations with relevant agencies will determine incentives, indicators, and assessment tools for the program, aligning with the DILG’s initiative to recognize the cleanest barangays.
The nationwide launch of the KALINISAN Project coincided with the celebration of the annual Community Development Day on January 6.
