Barangay Chairman Sammy Rivera Receives Support from Fellow Barangay Chairman Amid Suspension Order

San Pedro, Laguna - Barangay Chairman Sammy Rivera of Barangay Langgam, San Pedro, Laguna has garnered support from other barangay chairmans in relation to the suspension order against him today, July 2, 2024.

In an interview, Barangay Chairman Sammy Rivera mentioned that he was awaiting the release of his suspension order, which is why he went to the lobby of the San Pedro city hall. He, along with other barangay captains, and other people called for a fair decision, arguing that the case filed against him stemmed from a simple argument among his councilors during their session.

He further stated that it is normal for councilors to have arguments during sessions, but these usually do not escalate to physical confrontations and are typically resolved.

Thirteen other barangay captains from various barangays expressed their support for Rivera, citing a lack of due process and the absence of mediation between the chairman and the councilors.

Barangay Chairman Jun Ynion of Barangay San Antonio voiced his concern that the suspension order against Rivera might be a tactic to prevent him from voting in the upcoming election for their ABC President, where many barangay chairmans are expected to favor Ynion as the ABC President.

We are open to Mayor Art Mercado's insights on the case, but he was not in his office when we visited. (Joel Cabactulan
