Honda Cars Philippines, Inc (HCPI) has announced a preventive measure campaign of selected Honda City, Jazz, Civic and CR-V vehicles due to a suspected defect in the airbag inflators comprising the driver airbag/supplemental restraint systems.
In a letter dated 15 October 2015 sent to DTI Undersecretary Mario Dimagiba of the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) Consumer Protection Group, Noel M. Barachina, Division Head-Administration, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc., informed that HCPI has identified 6,624 units of City, 1,478 Jazz, 16,356 Civic and 18,002 CR-V vehicles made during the 2002-2009 model years which are affected by said preventive measure campaign in the Philippines.
The preventive measure campaign would enable Honda to investigate the affected parts and determine the cause of the unstable pressure and would involve the replacement, which is free of charge, of the front passenger airbag inflators of the affected units.
Moreover, HCPI also announced to conduct a Voluntary Safety Recall Campaign on City (2,153 units) and Jazz (278 units) vehicles made in the Philippines during the 2014-2015 model years.
The campaign, which is free of charge, would enable Honda to update the installed software in the engine control unit (ECU) and prevent the high stress on the affected vehicles' drive pulley shaft.
HCPI will be advising owners of the affected vehicles regarding the preventive measure and the voluntary safety recall campaigns. (Charlie S. Dajao/DTI Calabarzon)
