DTI launches ‘Mentor Me’ program for MSMEs

The Department of Trade and Industry in Calabarzon launched the ‘Mentor Me’ Program, a free negosyo seminar consisting of a series of mentoring sessions for existing and budding entrepreneurs, on April 4 at the SM City in Calamba, Laguna.
The Go Negosyo ‘Mentor Me’ program, a pilot project jointly developed by DTI and the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship (PCE), will be run in the Calabarzon Regional Negosyo Center located in Calamba.
The PCE, a non-stock, non-profit organization that advocates the ‘Go Negosyo’ mindset and attitude, believes that the Filipinos can address poverty by engaging in entrepreneurship.
PCE executive director Ramon Lopez said that the mentors are Go Negosyo’s angelpreneurs, experienced entrepreneurs and seasoned business lecturers who have the heart to share their wisdom and formula for success to existing and budding entrepreneurs.
“Beyond the books and seminars, we now embark on one-on-one coaching to address the unique cases of every entrepreneur in the program, and on top of that will be the inspiration that the entrepreneurs can derive from the experiences of the mentors,” Lopez emphasized.
DTI Regional Director Marilou Quinco-Toledo underscored the significance of the Go Negosyo Act in bringing assistance to the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) to become more competitive as this sector comprise 99.7% of the registered businesses and is the backbone of the country’s economy.
Toledo cited that DTI has provided capability enhancement seminars, shared service facilities, marketing assistance and has linked with non-government organizations such as the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Eco-Innovation, and Canadian Executive Service Organization (CESO) to help enterprises achieve competitive advantage through capability building and the introduction of green practices into their business operations.
“We must raise our enterprises to the next levels: from micro to small, and from small to medium. On this launching, I hope that many of our MSMEs will be more inspired and eventually succeed”, Toledo said. (Charlie S. Dajao/DTI Calabarzon)
