Calamba, Laguna – On June 12,
1898, Aguinaldo led the declaration of Philippine Independence from the
colonial rule of the Spaniards. Continuous efforts for sovereignty led to the
declaration of June 12 as a special public holiday under the Presidential
Proclamation which aims to commemorate the Filipino’s right to inherent freedom
and independence.
With the
company’s own initiative to celebrate the country’s independence, SM Supermalls
had a simultaneous flag raising ceremony across its malls nationwide. SM City
Calamba observed this national event with the ceremonial flag parade and flag
raising. The local government unit, members of the Bureau of Jail and Penology,
Boy Scout of the Philippines, Philippine Army – Laguna RR Battalion and mall
shoppers graced the said occasion. Aside from the ceremonial flag raising, the
mall goers were entertained by the “Karatong Binasuan Tinikling”, a cultural
dance group from Adamson University.
As part of the
Independence Day celebration, mall shoppers took advantage of the
#PINOYFUNSALE. Pinoy stylistas and street food bazaars were also activated to
give a complete Pinoy feel to the shoppers. The day ended with a mall show by
Karylle. KCHT
