The National Academy of Science and Technology
(DOST-NAST) declared 89 winners of the 2019 Intellectual Property Awards or IPA
held on December 10, 2019 in Quezon City.
First awarded in
2013, the IP Awards aim to revert back to DOST researchers their efforts to gain
international acceptance and recognition of Filipino
work and ingenuity.
NAST divided IPA into two categories, namely, the
International Publication Award and the Granted Patent/ Utility Model
Registration Award. The former is further divided into studies published in referred
journals and indexed either in Clarivate Analytics for impact factor or Scopus
for cite score.
ITDI, for itself, raked in 19 wins in both IPA
categories as well as being awarded as the 2019 Best
Institute for Highest Number of Utility Model Registrations together with FNRI;
PNRI cupped the 2019 Best Institute for Highest Number of International
Publications Award.
In terms of number of studies published in international
publications, ITDI came in third after PNRI and FNRI, which came in first and
second, respectively. It was cited for
having published its research studies in 12 international publications broken
down into 4 journals and 8 conference proceedings. Other winners for the
IP Award include: PNRI with 21 wins; FNRI – 17; ASTI - 8; PTRI – 7; FPRDI – 4;
and 1 each for PHIVOLCS, PAGASA, and DOST XI.
For
the Highest Number of Utility Model Registrations
Award, there were only three contenders.
ITDI was able to register seven Utility Models (UMs) alongside FNRI with
MIRDC getting three.
