CAMP CAPINPIN, Tanay, Rizal — Officers and enlisted personnel of the 2nd Infantry Division contributed an amount almost equivalent to their two-day meal allowance to help the indigent communities around this camp on Sunday.
A total of 897 soldiers generated Php206,700 which was used to procure groceries, the distribution of which coincided with this year’s Mother’s Day celebration.
According to Senior Master Sergeant Ireneo Dialogo, 2ID’s leader of the NCO Corps who initiated the undertaking, “405 families from Brgy Sampaloc’s three poorest sitios received ‘Mother’s Day gift packages’ that contain 13 essential items including four kilos of rice, among others.”
He said that "this crisis is an opportunity to help those whose lives were hardest hit by the corona virus pandemic” that, according to him, “the impact of which the soldiers are hoping to mitigate through this humble gesture of sharing our blessings during this special day.”
The leadership of 2ID gave specific guidance for the outreach team to strictly follow Enhanced Community Quarantine protocols from the moment they procured the items from the grocery to the repacking process as well as during distribution of relief items so as to prevent transmission of the deadly virus.
Major General Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos Jr, Commander of 2ID, lauded the soldiers for coming up with another noble undertaking to help the community around Camp Capinpin.
“We made it a point to find time to honor the mothers whose unconditional love and sacrifices have kept all of us afloat during the most challenging of times, including this dark period of COVID-19 contagion”, said Maj Gen Burgos.
He added that “their selflessness and devotion to their families are virtues that inspire our soldiers to rise above the situation during these trying moments as we move to close ranks with our people so that, together, we may survive this dark chapter in mankind’s history.”
He ended his statement by urging the public to continuously “ask for the Lord’s divine intervention so that the deadly virus may finally be contained, a cure discovered and for humanity to be able to return to the life that everyone of us deserve to live.”
It can be recalled that 2ID ushered the Holy Week and ended the Women’s month through a similar outreach program which benefited around 200 families during the second week of ECQ’s implementation.
