“Sikhayan is not just a tradition. It is a testament that here in the City of Santa Rosa, everything continues the new normal way”. This was what Mayor Arlene Arcillas said in her speech as she formally opened the 23rd Sikhayan Festival.
Mayor Arlene reiterated that this festival is not just a mere celebration but a way of showing everyone that amidst the pandemic, Santa Rosa continues to deliver programs and services; it continues to thrive.
Though it was held a month later than its usual date due to pandemic restrictions, the annual celebration pushed through on February 20, 2022 and was streamed live on the Sikhayan Festival Facebook Page and on Royal Cable Channel 6.
The city government also ensured that the guidelines of the Inter-Agency Task Force are strictly followed. All the participants and everyone present in the event were fully-vaccinated; social distancing and wearing of face masks were observed as well.
Coinciding with the 230th foundation of Santa Rosa, this year’s festival also commemorated the 80th birth anniversary of the late Mayor Leon Arcillas, the Father of Sikhayan and Santa Rosa.
Mayor Arlene also thanked the people of Santa Rosa for being supportive and cooperative of the city’s endeavors. According to her, the success and progress of the city would not be possible without the people’s participation.
As to what the theme asserts, “Pamilyang Santa Rosa Nagkakaisa sa Himig ng Pag-asa”, Mayor Arlene is looking forward to the continued support of the people towards strengthening the Santa Rosa family.
Highlight of the celebration is the much-awaited street dance competition that was participated by the representatives from different barangays.
Barangay Tagapo reigned this year’s competition as they were declared champions. Barangay Labas came in first place with Barangay Malitlit in second place. Barangay Kanluran and Barangay Pulong Sta. Cruz were the third and fourth placers, respectively
