Army's 2ID bags DOH Red Orchid Hall of Fame Award

CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal - The Philippine Army's 2nd Infantry "Jungle Fighter" Division was conferred the DOH Red Orchid Hall of Fame Award in a ceremony in Malvar, Batangas on Tuesday, February 14, 2023.

The Hall of Fame Award was presented during the DOH Center for Health Development CALABARZON's Sulong CALABARZON, Sulo ng Kalusugan at Lima Park Hotel. The 2ID Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff for Personnel Lt. Col. Warren O. Daroy received the award on behalf of Jungle Fighter Division Commander Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong.

In 2018, 2019, and 2020, DOH conferred the Red Orchid Award to the Jungle Fighter Division for ensuring a 100% smoke-free Camp General Mateo Capinpin environment. Of the awardees during the event, only 2ID managed to garner a 100% average score.

To be eligible for the Red Orchid Award, LGUs, government agencies, and hospitals must meet the criteria set by the Department of Health. It includes implementing a comprehensive smoke-free policy, forming a functional tobacco control task force, conducting information and education campaigns on the dangers of smoking, and providing smoking cessation services. In 2009, DOH's Administrative Order 2009-0010, the Rules and Regulations Promoting a 100% Smoke-Free Environment, became the foundation of the Red Orchid Award. It called for an absolute smoking ban in DOH offices, hospitals and attached agencies, and government offices and encouraged local government units to do the same in health facilities and other public places.

"The 2nd Infantry "Jungle Fighter" Division is honored to receive the Department of Health's Red Orchid Hall of Fame Award. As public servants, we have been conducting various initiatives to ensure we remain disciplined and professional soldiers for the Filipino people. We are proud that our Camp Capinpin is not only a haven of peace but an eco-friendly environment," 2ID Commander Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong said in a statement.
