MAKATI CITY, Philippines — The Makati Chemotherapy Center has officially opened its doors to the public, providing free chemotherapy treatment to cancer patients in the city.
According to Dr. Bernard Sese, Officer-in-Charge of the Makati City Health Office, the program is a significant initiative that will help provide much-needed treatment to residents battling cancer, particularly those who require chemotherapy.
Sese added that the city health office is open to establishing a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to facilitate a more direct referral system, allowing patients who need treatment to proceed directly to the chemotherapy clinic.
Meanwhile, Alfred Dela Cruz, Overall Area Operations Manager of New Hope Medical Groups, said one of the major challenges faced by many Filipinos is the high cost of cancer treatment. Because of financial difficulties, some patients are afraid to seek medical consultation and resort to self-medication, which may not be appropriate for their condition.
Dela Cruz advised patients to bring a valid ID and PhilHealth Member Data Record (MDR) to facilitate the necessary assessment and treatment process.
The program aims to expand access to cancer treatment and help reduce the financial burden of medical expenses on patients and their families.
